Overdraft Protection Changes
Our opt-in campaign is now beginning for ATM and debit card coverage, through Courtesy Pay, on HCU checking accounts.
New federal regulations are making a change that could put members in an embarrassing situation unless they take action.
The new regulations are adding an additional decision about how overdrafts are handled and specifically deals with how members want HCU to handle an overdraft when they are using an ATM or are using their debit card to make a purchase (described as a one-time debit card transaction).
After August 15th, 2010 ATM transactions and one-time debit card transactions will not be covered under Courtesy Pay unless members specifically opt-in.
Affected members will be receiving a mailing soon describing this new situation, their options for coverage, and their current levels of overdraft protection. If you have a consumer HCU checking account, a debit card and Courtesy Pay, your packet of information should be arriving by the middle of July, 2010.
HCU has long offered one of the most consumer friendly packages of overdraft protection available today. We call it Real Overdraft Protection. Click here to learn more about this new federally mandated option and how this package of protection can benefit you.
