Heartland Credit Union completes merger with Farmers Credit Union

June 1, 2022

Following a successful vote of both the Farmers Credit Union and Heartland Credit Union memberships, Farmers Credit Union is now part of Heartland Credit Union. The effective date of the merger is June 1, 2022.

“Our Board performed extensive due diligence in choosing Heartland as a merger partner and we felt their values and culture would blend well with Farmers.” states former Farmers Board Chair Brian Meder. “We’re glad our members believed in the value this merger would bring and are excited for the increased level of products and services they will receive as members of Heartland Credit Union.”

Farmers Credit Union was originally founded in 1953 to serve the members and employees of The Farmers Cooperative Association, the National Farm Loan Association of Hays, and their immediate family members.

Dan Springer, President and CEO of Heartland Credit Union stated, “We are very excited to welcome Farmers members to the Heartland Credit Union family.  We’re dedicated to continuing Farmers’ commitment to their members and look forward to providing them with enhanced products and services for many years to come.  We are eager to bring the Heartland Way to the entire Hays community”

With the merger, Heartland Credit Union adds the Hays location to its network of 8 branches in Hutchinson, Haven, Newton, and Wichita.  The Hays branch will soon receive upgrades, including the addition of a 24-hour ATM to provide greater convenience for their members.  There will also be a light refresh to introduce the Heartland Credit Union brand.  Members can immediately take advantage of expanded evening and weekend hours through the Heartland eBranch and Heartland Connections video banking.

Heartland Credit Union was formed in 1948 as the Hutchinson Teachers Credit Union, by 14 educators looking to provide a better financial choice for their fellow teachers.  Following the merger Heartland is now over $525 million in assets, with 135 employees serving over 34,000 members across Kansas and beyond.
