Community is at the core of how Heartland Credit Union works. Each year, Heartland Makes a Difference gives our team a chance to show it, and this year, almost 150 team members spent the day working alongside local organizations in the places we live and serve.
The weather was close to perfect. Teams spread out across 16 community projects, including one in North Carolina. The work was hands-on: sorting and organizing, painting, deep cleaning, cooking and delivering meals, and plenty of yard work.
At YMCA Camp Hiawatha in Wichita, “Fourteen hard workers, a whole lot of staining and sealing, sand stamping, hedge trimming, raking, and more flattened boxes than we’d ever want to count made for an amazing day at Camp Hiawatha,” said team captain Amy Tennison, Business Relationship Manager.
It was hard work, great teamwork, lots of fun, and the perfect example of community is at our core.
Our community partners
Planning goes more smoothly with good partners. The Volunteer Center of Reno County helped source projects in the Hutchinson area, and the United Way of the Plains did the same in Wichita. Thank you to every organization that welcomed our team:
- Haven: Haven Parks
- Hays: The Arc of the Central Plains
- Hutchinson area: Buhler Sunshine Home, Christian Soup Ministry, Dillon Nature Center, Grand Staff Thrift Boutique, Hospice House, Hutchinson Zoo, Interfaith Housing, Meals on Wheels, and Reins of Hope
- Ness City: Ness City Elementary School
- Newton: Ember Hope
- Wichita: The Salvation Army and YMCA Camp Hiawatha
- North Carolina: ABCCM Crisis Ministry South
Thank you also to the team captains and staff who organized the day. Heartland is owned by the members we serve, and that’s why days like this matter to us. These are our neighbors, and we’re glad to spend a day helping them.
